This past week, the redfish bite in the shallows absolutely delivered.

On both morning and evening trips, we focused our efforts around grass lines and shallow structure, and our guests were rewarded with solid redfish action. The key? Bait in the area. If you’re not seeing signs of life—move on. When you find the right pocket, it lights up.

Hot Zones

  • Grass edges with visible drains or points
  • 12–24 inches of water
  • Shell patches in 3–4 ft with active current

We’re still working our go-to rig:

  • Imitation shrimp under Fish Smack popping corks with a 1-ft leader
  • Weightless Deadly Dudley Rat Tails and WacAttack Flukes
  • 1/8 oz jig heads over shell when targeting deeper trout

Bonus Trout Action

While redfish have been the headline, we’re also picking off keeper trout around mid-bay reefs and over hard shell in 3–4 ft of water. That said, expect to sort through smaller fish to find the right ones.

Labor Day crowds are fading and prime fall fishing is just getting started. Cooler mornings, active fish, and less pressure—this is one of the best times to be on the upper Texas coast.
