Trout & Redfish Feeding Aggressively on Incoming Tides in East Galveston Bay

The East Galveston Bay bite continues to stay consistent as warming water temperatures keep bait active along the shoreline flats and scattered shell. Incoming tides have been the key ingredient this week, especially when paired with clean moving water and active bait presence.

Most of our success has come in shallow shoreline areas with scattered shell mixed into the flats. Fish are feeding aggressively right now, and slowing down presentations around productive structure has made a big difference over the last several days.

Key Zones for Action

The trout bite has been strongest over scattered shell in shallow flats, especially where incoming tides are pushing bait across the structure. Most productive depths have been in the 2–4 foot range with steady tidal movement.

Redfish have continued cruising grass lines and tighter shoreline structure. Areas holding mullet and shrimp activity have consistently produced better quality fish throughout the morning hours.

What’s Working

Artificial shrimp imitations under popping corks continue to produce some of the most aggressive bites of the season. We’ve been fishing a shorter 1-foot leader and working the cork with a pop, slow reel, and pause presentation to trigger strikes.

Deadly Dudley Rat Tails and WacAttack Flukes in lighter colors have also been producing steady action when rigged on 1/8 oz jig heads.

The topwater bite has remained solid early, with bone-colored plugs being a preferred option among our anglers during lower light conditions.

Species Spotlight

Speckled trout have been stacked over scattered shell and responding best during stronger incoming water movement. Slower retrieves around active slicks and bait pockets have helped keep the bite going consistently.

Redfish continue holding tight to grass lines and shallow shoreline structure. Cleaner water and active bait have been the biggest indicators for locating productive areas.

Seasonal Tips & Timing

As water temperatures continue climbing into late spring patterns, early morning and moving tide windows are becoming increasingly important. Artificial presentations remain extremely effective right now, especially for anglers willing to slow down and work productive zones thoroughly.

The popping cork bite has been especially strong over the last few days and should continue producing well as long as tidal movement stays consistent.
