East Galveston Bay has been showing off this week — clear water, calm winds, and bait everywhere. We’ve been working both the oyster reefs and grass shorelines, finding consistent redfish action and some solid trout mixed in. Back in the marsh, the reds have been thick, cruising the flats and grass edges with the cooler morning tides.

🎯 Key Zones for Action

The best bite came around pinch points with current and scattered shell, especially where nervous bait was flipping on the surface. Shoreline grass pockets and drains are holding redfish, while the deeper edges of the reefs have produced trout. A few early-season flounder are also starting to slide into their fall ambush spots near drains and sandy cuts.

🧰 What’s Working

Imitation shrimp under popping corks with short 12” leaders continue to be our go-to setup, keeping rods bent all week. For those fishing tight to structure, 1/8 oz jig heads rigged with Wac Attack and Deadly Dudley tails in lighter colors have been the ticket. When targeting flounder, Fishbites tails added the extra scent that sealed the deal.

🐟 Species Spotlight

Redfish are thick on the shorelines, with plenty of slot fish hitting shrimp under corks. Speckled trout have been steady on shell flats in 3–4 feet of water, and flounder numbers are ticking up each day — just in time for the late October push before the closure.

Birds are also working all across the bay, so if you like chasing birds, you can still find a mix of keeper trout and fast school action under them most days.

🍂 Seasonal Tips & Timing

With mornings and evenings cooling off, now’s the time to enjoy some of the best weather of the year on East Bay. Remember — October 31 is the last day to keep flounder until mid-December, so make your trip count before the closure kicks in.
