The fall transition is rolling strong across East Bay this week. 

Morning temps are cooler, and that north breeze is helping clear the water across the back marshes and protected shorelines. 

Bait is still thick in the back lakes, and the redfish have been cruising those grasslines looking for an easy meal.

Key Zones for Action

We’ve focused most of our efforts in the marsh and back lakes, where nervous mullet and shrimp are pushing up tight to the grass. 

Redfish have been thick in 12–24 inches of water, with the best bites coming around moving tides. 

On higher water, we’ve shifted to the protected sides of the Intracoastal and flats with scattered shell. 

Trout numbers remain solid over shell in 3–4 feet, though there are still plenty of undersized fish mixed in.

What’s Working

Imitation shrimp lures under popping corks with 12″ leaders continue to get the job done. 

Fishbite tails have produced steady bites, and when fishing over shell, lighter 1/8 oz jig heads rigged with Wac Attack and Deadly Dudley tails in lighter colors have been key. 

Around flooded grass, we’ve been running weedless swimbait hooks to keep clean presentations in the thick stuff.

Species Spotlight

Redfish are the headliners this week — healthy slot fish with a few oversized bulls showing up when the tide’s pushing. 

Trout are consistent but smaller overall, and we’re still catching a few keeper flounder around drains where bait is stacked. 

Remember: flounder retention closes after this Friday, so get your last legal keeper while you can.

A cool front is expected to slide in soon, and that’ll drop water temps a few more degrees — perfect for firing up the fall bite. 

The crowds have thinned, so now’s the time to grab your crew, enjoy the quiet mornings, and take advantage of some of the year’s best fishing on the Texas coast.
