As summer starts to wind down and the crowds thin post-Labor Day, the fishing around Crystal Beach is only heating up.

We’ve been targeting a mix of speckled trout, redfish, black drum, and flounder, focusing our time along the Intracoastal shorelines and mid-bay reefs. Good tide movement and structure have been key to locating fish, especially during outgoing tides when bait is being flushed into the open.

Trout action has been steady, especially around mid-bay reefs and shoreline shell. There are plenty of bites—but we are weeding through smaller fish to find the better-quality keepers.

Reds and flounder have stayed active in skinny water, especially where strong current is pushing bait along the bank.

The bird action is picking up, too, so if you’re into chasing schooling fish under birds, now’s the time to gear up. The surface activity has made for some exciting topwater opportunities.

Lure Report:

  • Imitation shrimp under popping corks (with 1–2 ft leader) continue to produce solid bites.
  • 1/8 oz jigheads with WacAttack and Deadly Dudley soft plastics in light colors are outperforming this week.
  • Fish Bites are doing well in stained marsh water when added to jigs for a scent boost.
As temperatures slowly start to ease and pressure drops from seasonal hunters, expect the bite to remain strong through the next several weeks.
