The spring transition is underway, and fish are starting to spread out. Trout have been a bit more challenging, with lots of smaller fish mixed in, but staying mobile and working productive zones is still putting quality fish in the boat.
Key Zones for Action
Springtime flats with scattered shell beds have been the most consistent for trout.
We’re finding better bites in areas holding active bait, especially where pelicans and wading birds are working.
Redfish have been holding around drains and pushing into very shallow water, especially on moving tides.
What’s Working
Imitation shrimp lures under popping corks continue to produce, especially with a short 1-foot leader to trigger reaction bites.
Deadly Dudley and WacAttack tails in light colors paired with 1/4 oz jig heads are getting steady action.
Jerkbaits and swimbaits are still picking off fish for anglers covering water.
Topwater is starting to come alive, so keep a walking bait ready and vary your retrieve until fish commit.
