Conditions are starting to line up for a solid spring pattern, with warming water pushing trout onto their seasonal flats. Bait activity has been key, and the more signs of life you find, the better your odds.

Wind and passing fronts have scattered fish at times, but when things settle, the bite has been consistent and trending upward.

Key Zones for Action

Trout are beginning to stage over shell beds on the flats, especially in areas holding active bait. Focus on shallow zones with nearby depth changes where fish can slide in and out.

Redfish have been holding tight to drains and pushing shallow along grass edges during higher tides. Water movement around these areas has been critical.

What’s Working

Popping cork setups with a 1-foot leader have been producing the best numbers, especially for trout. Imitation shrimp and soft plastics are doing the heavy lifting.

Deadly Dudley and Wac Attack tails in lighter colors paired with 1/8 oz jig heads have been consistent producers.

Jerkbaits and swimbaits are still picking up bites for anglers covering water. Topwater action has been solid early and late, so keep a walking bait ready.

Vary retrieves and let the fish dictate the pace and presentation.
